Does a local radio shack or hardware store carry the 2.4 volt 700Mah AA rechargeable battery for the Mth proto 2 loco please help just bought a engine and found no battery in it thx

Nope, and it has an MTH connector on it that you won't find there either.
The locomotive should run without the battery, and you can stick an alkaline in just to test it, but don't leave it in there.
Darn I was hoping to get her running thx John , thx for the info I found a Mth Hudson tinplate legacy set and don't have dcs yet so was hoping to get running looks like I have to order one

Yep, and ignore the advice about the alkaline. I was thinking 9V PS2, clearly that won't work here!
