MTH #334 Dispatch Board-can't get it to work

The drive belt on my MTH #334 Dispatch Board broke a few weeks ago. I ordered a replacement and installed it. The belt comes in two sections which are held together by two pins. When the belt tries to go around the pulleys it stops every time the section with the pins tries to go around the pulleys. The replacement belt seem to be identical to the original, but it just won't navigate the pulleys. I have adjusted the tension but no luck. Has anybody ever tried to service this unit?
