I have acquired a NYE ESE passenger set and a 2 car add on. MTH #'s MT-6504 and MT-6509
Both boxes state they are premier 70' scale but the MT-6504 box states car length is 15" while the MT-6509 states 18". When taken out of the box and the cars are set side by side they are in fact the same length which is about 17 1/2" (body length). I have attached pics of box descriptions.
Any thoughts as to why this is?

Typo or a Railing label. MTH currently makes only one length of Premiere passenger car.

Actually, there are different sized Premier passenger cars. My Premier Woodside passenger cars are not as long as the Premier Heavyweights or the streamlined models. The Woodside cars are 16" long exclusive of the couplers.
In 1994 MTH came out with traditional sized aluminum passenger cars. They were virtually identical to PW Lionel and Williams remakes. They were #60XX sets. In 1996 the cars were upped to 18" cars and numbered #65XX sets. I agree the box is a typo.
When the part number starts with "MT", don't assume that purple = Premier. This was very early MTH packaging.

I was aware that the MT was early stuff for MTH but since getting back into the hobby in 2015 I figured a purple box was Premier. I know that nowadays most 20 - is and 30 - is RK thanks for clearing that up for me.
