I have both the MTH and Lionell Wi-Fi. I really like how the MTH Wi-Fi and app operate the trains. I have the free Lionell app loaded on my iPad. Not real impressed with how this operates the trains. Does anybody have the Icab app that you can get from the App Store for $50 and how do you like it

Isn't the iCab app is the one actually meant to operate the trains? I think the free one is LCS for Layout Control and was not really meant to operate trains, but just the layout.
The I cab is great and will get better as it's upgraded fully to simulate the legacy remote, I operate multiple trains as an engine and a train I find control of the trains thru the layout control system clumsy however acessories and switch control are great.
So why do j need an app to simulate a remote I already have.
The app is needed so we can all remain on the cutting bleeding edge of technology, now where did I leave those band aids?
No one said you needed an App.
I can't believe Lionel is charging $50 for an iPhone app after I have to drop almost $200 for their wifi and cable, especially if it doesn't have all the features. It would be nice if they had a basic operations app for the iPhone like MTH. I am only operating 2 trains but would like my young nephews to control the trains with their phones. They can't buy a $50 app.

I disagree MartyE, my phone tells me I need apps all the time. My point is why buy an app for $50 that only does what my remotes already do
Perhaps I am missing something here. I have a 990 and a 993 expansion set along with the WiFi. I downloaded the iCab app and installed it on two of our iPhones. For $50 I have two more remotes, a real bargain compared to buying two more 993 sets. The iCab app works well and offers more engine control features than the LCS app on the iPad.
tom - that is a good way to look at it. I've always thought the $50 was pricey, but when you think about installing it on more than 1 of your own devices it becomes affordable quickly.
However, i do agree it would be nice if there was a free, super dumbed down app that your friends/family could download on the fly and spin trains from their remote (phone) and not have to spend $50.
I wanted to make such an app, but I have slowed down on learning how to code, just not a big enough priority.
A dumbed down engine controller is what is in the LCS. However that free app will only install on an iPad. If your friends/family bring their iPad with them just have them download the free LCS app, pair the iPad with the WiFi and they are good to go.
Another nice thing about using iCab on an iPhone, a return authorization from Lionel for repairs will never be needed.
