You mentioned that you were from South Jersey and a PRSL fan.  The PRSL had a handful of hoppers used to load coal into locomotives on the Ocean City branch.  There was a wye to turn the steam locomotives, a water tower and standpipe, and a small yard (4th street), but no coaling tower.  They would park the hopper between two steamers (usually a G5 or an E6) and shovel the coal in by hand.  I'd LOVE to see one of these.

That must have been some job. Shoveling from the top of the load wouldn't be too bad, but when you got down a few feet; man that must have been rough!

Hey Beth,

On the topic of those fishbelly hoppers (PRSL) I'd be in for some. You might want to see if there is any interest in the "Joisy" guy's & Pennsy guy's as to the PRSLRR. I have to find some Pennsy coaches or the real thing (PRSL) coaches, because I'm going to put or make-up a consist together and I'm currently looking for a Lionel PRSL (on ebay) Atlantic 4-4-2 which I will put ERR and all the other bells & whistles into. I understand you having to make up to 70 hoppers to break even, but there's always hope!
