The Imperial version with charging lights for $279 is one heck of a good deal. Certainly will look great running under a Christmas Tree.

I think this is going to be one of those engines that if you didn't order it you may wish you had. My Christmas train is just for fun so the fact it's not a scale diesel is no big deal for me because my Christmas rolling stock isn't scale either. The charging lights are going to look very cool! Red & Green lights I hope!

Being that I like red(or mostly red) locomotives, this one is very tempting.  Flashing lights too...I'm thinking about it.

The regular GE EVO Hybrid is a real head turner and everyone loves it when it's running on the layout. The charge lights are awesome. This one will surely be a Christmas hit!

Nice to see MTH produce more Christmas themed products.  The EVO charging light feature should be something to see.  Not meaning to dampen the mood but I do wish MTH would update its graphics or design style for this product.  I thought MTH's Christmas Dasher GP9 (canceled)

was a decent theme as well as their early Rudolph RTR set.

 

As shown, the ES44AC's colors and general design just doesn't do it for me; especially considering the modern engine design and features of this specific model.  I think Lionel's Christmas design/color themes are much better looking than what MTH has produced in the past couple of years.  To me Lionel's colors are deeper or richer looking and the design graphics are classically stylish, even on their basic RTR Christmas sets.  I don't see much effort put into the color/graphics (plain red top/white middle/plain red bottom) of MTH's ES44AC Christmas design.  Maybe it's my recent infatuation with modern tinplate talking, but I would like to see bolder graphics, richer colors and possibly a glossy finish.  I hope I'm wrong on my first impression, but IMO the Imperial ES44AC EVO model's features deserve more.

It's not a deal breaker for me but I do agree the Christmas themes could stand to be updated a bit and a glossy finish would look even better. I do Like Lionel's Christmas graphics better and I think they got it right when the Heritage diesels were done glossy like the prototypes that were just freshly painted.
