This is one of those "suggestion box" things I've been meaning to write for over a year, having bought 12-13 MTH locomotives in the past 18 months. Can't say enough about how much I enjoy them all....well, most...LOL. Some are fickle.
My query (read: suggestion aka complaint) is in the set-up of a new loco, or resetting one that lost it's settings. See video. It's the speed control.
With my best 68 year old, dry, cracked, fat-thumbs, I have found it deadly to make this simple mis-movement. Generally, I'd hazard a guess that most are watching their locomotive move VS looking at your iPad, thinking once you've looked down, that you are hitting the correct + (plus) key to begin a movement. Once you inadvertently pump the 120MPH instead the too-close-for-comfort + (plus) key, the horror begins. Your nice, brand new locomotive becomes a missile!!
Note: If you dont have dry skin, you may not be repeatedly hitting any key.
Overall, I LOVE the iPad app and plan to stick with it inspite of receiving my long-awaited DCS hand-held remote. (I'd sell it now for any reasonable offer...used it about 1 hour) The iPad is great for grandkids, who can use with a very limited tutorial.
My suggestion is a simple one, hopefully done in an upgrade of some sort: set the Max. speed for a any newly added or re-added locomotive at something senible, like 35MPH, and let the less faint-of-heart bump it up from there. To wit: I bought each of my daughters older Saab 9000s with 5-speeds in high school. The speedometers read 135 MPH. If you can draw a parallel, the recipe for disaster is just a few simple mis-steps away. Terrific cars, BTW...sadly long gone.
Any hope for this change? I don't think it's asking a lot. Please let me know if the software has been changed already, but I just needed to finally sit down and communicate my thoughts on speed controls.
Best Regards,
Bob
