I just got the three MTH tinplate houses I won in the auction. I probably paid too much but I doubt these will ever be produced again and they are reasonably rare to begin with. I got 2 unfinished 1189 Villas and one unfinished 1184 bungalow. Now I need to decide how to paint them so if anyone has any pictures of painted ones please post them.
I do have one factory painted one and it looks great on my floor layout.

Here are the various color combinations originally used by Lionel as identified in the TCA Book, Lionel Trains The Standard Of The World. Good luck on taking these apart and if you do paint Mae sure you keep us updated on your progress. Hope these help!
Nice! I considered getting one or two of those for my layout as well. I was going to put small people with paint brushes around it, as if they were getting ready to paint it.

That's a neat idea for any of the unpainted/unfinished items!
For myself, I won the red 710 series baggage car and am anxiously awaiting it's arrival.
I thought about bidding on those as well. I was surprised how much they were going for. Why don't you paint them to match a couple of tinplate sets you own. For example If you own a Blue Comet paint the house to match. It makes a great picture. I have painted 22 tin buildings to match classic tinplate sets.

Most of the houses came from Kohls. I cleaned them out on these ugly tinplate houses on-line.
Right now Ollies has these. They do open in the back, but they don't look bad after paint. They are only $4.99
My tinplate layout is apart of the Roanoke Valley Model Railroad. That means I don't own what's on the layout. I have a $100.00 limit on what I can spend without a club vote. Try to explain to a bunch of HO, N-Scale guys why you want $400.00 for a Power Station. You get the idea, so I had to get creative with my buildings. Actually, it gives the layout a unique look. After buying a bunch of buildings I tried to figure out what colors to paint them and it occurred to me to paint each building as tribute to a classic or modern tinplate set.
When I approached the club and told them I wanted to build a multi-gauge Standard and O-Gauge Tinplate layout. None them had even heard of Standard Gauge.
There are some smaller black and white buildings on sale at Target for $5.00. I even picked up one yesterday that is almost all large windows that will become a tinplate green house. You can match your paint at a Home Depot and get a semi-gloss sample for $5.00. They are cheap way to populate your layout.

Pete great work as usual, the hardest part is the masking.
This post just reminded me to finish one of my Hallmark tin houses.
Just have to finish the chimney, glue in the glass install the blinds/curtains light inside and outside on a sign that hangs in the front. this will be mounted on a landscaped platform with trees/bushes/fence.
Have everything except for time

When did you find those? Those are the nicest tinplate I've seen. Your paint make them a masterpiece.

Thank you Scott, this was a education in masking more than anything else.
I know Pete from Kansas as doing on and there was a problem with the galvanized covering on the house where the paint would flake off. I used scotch brite to ruff up the surface than cleaned with heavy wipes of lacquer thinner.
As in the photos, I do have a extra one and may post it in the for sale forum section.
Here's the first of my MTH auction houses painted. I started small with the 1184. I did it partially in authentic colors, dark gray roof, ivory wall and apple green doors. I did paint the base green added a door and added a brick foundation, porch and chimney. I think it will make a nice addition to my floor layout.
Next I'll have to work on the 2 1189 Villas.
