I really liked the 3/2 steam offerings in the new catalog and they are very tempting. The loco Iv'e been hanging out for the longest time and hoped it would be offered in 3/2 was the Erie Triple, but its not to be in two rail. What are the chances of getting MTH to run it in two rail. Iv'e noticed in Ebay after a catalog item is delivered two rail versions even thou they weren't offered two rail. cTr...(Choose the Right)

The only Triplex that mth did that is correct is the Erie version. The Virginian version is soooo grossly incorrect that it is a botchery. Even so bad it has the wrong wheel arrangement. I do not know who would buy the VGN version unless you're a pure fictitious modeler that likes to run fantasy trains that never extisted. But then again, if it makes you happy. Stephen
The obstacle is the drivers. They have some strange way of insulating things that requires an entirely new axle setup. If there is not a large enough market, going to the expense of changing all those drivers is not cost-effective. Opinion.
Joe Foehrkolb, an OGR forum member and owner of Baldwin Forge and Machine in Maryland, has converted at least two of these MTH triplexes to 2 rail for members of the NYSME club.
Stephen your totally right no VGN, strictly Erie. Bob I think they only use those axels on the 3/2 versions, and they are not offering it on the Triplex.
Rhil unfortunately I live in Australia but Joe's work is well known to me, and his work speaks for its self. I have to hope there's enough demand for a two rail version, now or in the future. cTr....(Choose the Right)

If MTH is releasing the triplex again perhaps you could purchase from a US dealer and have the dealer ship to Joe F and he could send it to you after conversion. That would seem to incur just one international shipping charge.
RHeil,
Actually, I have converted 3 of the MTH Triplexes to 2 rail. They run pretty well when converted but are a bit noisy due to there being four gearboxes in these models all with brass/steel gearing.

Joe I might have to buy a second hand one and convert it, hopefully the rerun by MTH will mean theres more on the second hand market for sale. cTr...(Choose the Right)
