I just received the MTH Premier 70' Madison Observation Passenger Car 20-61057. It is the CP Holiday train issue (Van Horne). It does not have the "Medallion" on the rear railing, and it does not have illuminated marker lights in the rear. I have a much older PRR version of this observation car that has all those items. If someone has this car can you tell me if this is how they are manufactured today. I was looking forward to it being illuminated like the older one I have. Thank you.

I have that car and yes, the marker lights do work on mine. There isn't a drumhead/medallion on it, though. I know when they are in use with the Royal Canadian Pacific, there is the RPC crest on the rear railing. Since this car was made to use with the Holiday Train, there is wreath and lighting normally put in place along that railing. Maybe that's why MTH opted out of placing anything there. I'm planning to decorate mine with a small wreath as well (and try some LED strip lighting down the sides...….)

Thank you. The marker lights do not work on mine as you can see from the picture. I was planning on doing the same with the wreath in the back and garland.
just a thought, is there a switch on the bottom just for the markers?
I will look.
No switch on the car or in instructions, but indicates Led lighting for interior and marker lights
I'd send an email to MTH or talk to the dealer where you got it from. Sounds like something is disconnected then?
I talked to the seller - large on-line dealer. He said they have no info on this model as having lighted marker lights, only interior lighting. Anyone else have this product who can tell us what they have?
I think I have answered my own question. I was disappointed it did not have illuminated marker lights, so I started looking at the real thing. CP did not have marker lights on the heavy weight observation cars and certainly not currently on the "Van Horne" being used on the Holiday Train. I also looked at the same car when it was used in the movie "Rocky Mountain Express" - spectacular movie. This was MTH's attempt to make this CP specific as best they could - removing the marker lights was probably not possible from the frame. They did make the railings and "piping?" in the front like the CP, and did not add a drum emblem on the rear as the CP did not have them on this car. Someone with more CP knowledge could further explain. On balance MTH made this as close as was reasonable to the actual CP Van Horne car.

In the reality of today's railroad operations, a FRED takes the place of marker lights, which is visible in the photo.
