Now that I have a DCS Explorer I understand the limited function it allows with my MTH PCC PS3 Street car.  I may want to get a PS3 steam engine such as MTH 30-1751-1.  Is there a way to learn what restrictions will exist running a PS3 engine with a DCS Explorer before I buy the PS3 engine?  TIA, Rick

There actually are several features that will not be available with the explorer. Just to name a few off the top of my head is labor/drift chuff, brake squeal, clickity clack, smoke volume control and full start up and shut sequences along with being able to trigger numerous sounds. There are more I cannot think of at the moment but I know when I went to the Wi-Fi and TIU with the upgraded app there were so many more options and settings that were available. It doesn't matter whether it is Railking or Premier. Ps3 is Ps3. There are of course some Premier models that have a quilable whistle or whistle steam effect but Ps3 is pretty much the same. I have numerous Railking Ps3 locomotives and can tell you my options for features really opened up when I went from the DCS explorer to DCS Wi-Fi,TIU and upgraded phone app. Even the Railking steam engine from the Pennsylvania starter set opened up all the Ps3 features on that engine.

Maybe especially that new TIUs are not available, I wish MTH would publish a list of functions, by loco,  that are restricted when using their various other remotes (Explorer, Remote Commander…etc.) to assist in making a selection.  I appreciate that the end game is the TIU.

I agree 100%. I just used YouTube and this forum. Try the search function. There are several topics on this I'm sure. I believe I created one at some point asking about this and got lots of help. I may have asked more about Legacy but can't remember. It seemed like the manual that came with the TIU will tell you all the features. You can download it and compare it to your Explorer manual and see the differences.
