I have an MTH Ready-to-Run set 30-4247-1 with the DCS Explorer and included 50 watt 5 amp power supply. Does anyone know what the output to the track is; AC or DC and volts? The MTH manual, website and catalog doesn't say.

Your brick will output DC power by the looks of the label. So the explorer will be taking in DC power. If you want AC accessories to work properly you will want to use an AC adapter like the Z-500, Z-750, or Z-1000 AC Power Supply. All of these are below the 6 AMPS the explorer can handle.
According to the photo of the power supply you posted input is 120V AC and output is 15V DC.

Incorrect, it'll work fine with DC power, they supplied it with the set.

@James Ford stated that if one desired/necessitated AC output, one would need an AC input. It was not stated that the set as provisioned needed AC. Of course, I hope that @Michael McCallister has already figured things out as this is one of those threads strangely awoken just shy of a year of inactivity...
