Hello all. I'm looking to buy a DCS control system for my layout. I didn't realize that there was a new version on the market and an older "serial" version. Can anybody tell me the difference? Will the old version work just as good as the new?
Replies sorted oldest to newest
The latest model TIU, which says Rev L on the bottom, also has a USB port and revised circuitry. ALl of the older models work fine, unless components have failed. Rev G TIUs, the first version, came out about 15 years ago. I have 2. They still work. I wouldn't buy one now.
The older ones may need filters or bulbs to enhance the signal on your layout.
The new version L, should not need them. It has enhanced signal output, as pointed out above with USB.
I too use both kinds.
TrainguyMcGee, take time to read the posts on this thread: https://ogrforum.com/t...14#71397233950446114
They list in detail the similarities and likenesses between the various TIU versions and also discuss the pros and cons of buying each type. Hope it helps you.
Buy the new one and do it right.
Buy the new one.
Thanks guys. I think I'll just get a new one. Better safe than sorry.
Good idea. The warranty is worth it. Used TIUs are often being unloaded for a reason.
