I have Barrys, DCS book, but was unable to find anything in detail on my issue.
I am currently using a MTH Z-1000 Brick and transformer to go into Fixed Input 1 and out of Fixed Output 1 and then to track.
It works fine, but I thought there was a way to just use the Z-1000 Brick and not the transformer?
If so, what would my Input and Outputs be?
I used to have this set up this way...I am sure, but I just finished re-doing that part of the layout and forgot how I did it.

If I understand you correctly the transformer is the Z-Controller? I think you just want to connect your Z-1000 brick directly to Fixed Input 1 and Fixed Output 1 directly to track. Leave the Z-Controller out of the circuit. Unless you run conventional, then I will defer to others that have conventional stuff for proper connections as I don't have any conventional.

Yep, I have that Barry...problem is every time I hook the brick up and connect to fix input one, it trips the fuse on the brick.
That is what made me think i did something wrong, so I hooked the transformer up to Aux Power in order to run trains in DCS.
So to review:
1) Power Brick with the adapter cable into Fixed One Input and then Fixed output to tracks trips fuse on the brick.
2) Add a transformer and connect it to brick with wires from transformer black and red to fixed input one and wires from fixed output one works fine.
With the adapter cable connected to the brick, does the brick "fuse" trip if you don't plug the bananas into the TIU input?
How are you powering the TIU itself and is it an original Rev G (unmarked on bottom)? Also, are you powering any other channels?
Regardless, try swapping red and black when connecting to Fixed 1 In. That would be cable red to TIU black, and vice-versa. Some barrel jack cables were wired reversed.

I swapped the Barrel jack cable for a different one and it worked!
