MTH E8 Shell on a Lionel Legacy Chassis

I have a Lionel E8 chassis complete with all the LEGACY control and sound boards. I've been looking for a chassis for it for a very long time, no luck.
On ebay, there is an MTH E8 shell, Santa Fe. But I don't know if the shell will fit onto the Lionel chassis. I "assume" the width of the shell is standard and will fit. And the length should fit, with perhaps some "adjustments". Just don't know about the mounting studs. If they are close, I could drill new holes if they do not line up. My concern would be that the MTH studs interfere with the Legacy boards or they are so far off, I have nothing to attach the shell to.
Wonder if anyone has both the Lionel and MTH and if they can give me any help before I buy the MTH shell only to find out it takes a lot of cutting and drilling to make it fit.

Why not buy a suitable Legacy E8 shell, it's a lot more likely it'll fit. It would help to know the vintage of the Legacy chassis you have.

The wish the shells were available from Lionel but they are not, otherwise I would have bought one.

The Lionel chassis is from 6-81220, Santa Fe. It appeared in the 2014 catalog, and included several road names, Burlington, Rock Island, KCS, C&O and others. I would prefer SF or Burlington, but any will do as I can always repaint it.

So right now, I'll take the MTH shell if it will fit without much effort.
