I've had one of the new PS3 RK E8s for a few months now and all of the sudden tonight it just takes off at full speed under DCS operation or conventional operation. Anything above 1 SMPH and it takes off like a shot. I have done a feature reset and factory reset to no avail. It seems to be seeing the watchdog signal since it comes up dark when I apply power to the tracks. My M1 runs fine. Any ideas before I call MTH?

My PS3 GG1 did the same thing. Needed a new board but then again, that GG1 has always been a little "flaky". Hopefully it isn't as major for you, those Pennsy E8s are super snazzy!
From what I have read here on the forum it sounds like it could be a problem with the tach sensor or tach strip. Maybe one of the more experienced folks will be by to confirm.
I have a PS 2.0 Premier Hudson that had the same problem (Tach Sensor). Sent to MTH, paid them $60.00. After a year, a new problem came up. Every time I turn the smoke on the lights dims. As if the smoke unit is sucking to much power.

Replace the fan motor and also make sure the heating elements not grounded.
Speed control issues start with making sure tach reader gap is good, no broken wires to reader, tach tape clean. If that doesn't do it, replace tach reader. After that more trouble shooting and testing of the board, best done by a tech. G
I called MTH today got an RA# and went to the basement to pack it up. I thought I am going to try it one more time and darned if it doesn't work just fine again! Could this be a board that is not seated tightly?
I'm not sure what I would do? Run the crap out of it for a few days?? I only say that because shipping engines to and from is not cheap. I know it's probably still under warranty but I suspect MTH is going to say there's nothing wrong with it.
Are you willing to remove the shell and take a peek at the tach, its mounting, and associated wiring?
A little off topic..but isn't a tach board failure a rare event?

Yes and No. I have seen more PS-3 tach failures. G
