As I've posted previously, I'm not a big fan of locomotive-mounted sound gimmicks.
I've shut off the majority of sound on my MTH EP-5, as I find the tinniness annoying. However a decent horn would be nice, just to startle spectators.
Does anyone have a link to a real EP-5 horn sound? To me, the existing one sounds like Godzilla announcing his intentions to downtown Tokyo.

The EP5's never had a horn, just the Hancock 4700 air whistle.

when conrail was just getting underway we in collinwood yard cle ohio was a gathering point for engines of all roads...one day i stepped from our shanty and saw a switcher of some sort with a hancock air whistle on the roof.So me knowing a little about everything and alot about nothing climbed up and let her rip !!! the old timers ran out of the shanty like it was on fire...they were thinking steam was back !!! When they saw it was just me well you know.........

A bit of rail near me began a new noise in the last few days. Outside late last night, an empty train brought forth a sound I would have sworn was a steamer chuffing at first except it didn't fade

It sounds very nice to me. I'm pretty sure the same whistle is found on Kiski Junction Railroad 7135 near Pittsburgh.
I put a Lionel whistle from a docksider into my postwar New Haven EP-5.
has a commuter train sound. The Wabash F-3 has a little more authority!
