Im looking for some opinions on an MTH #20-3078-1 FEF 4-8-4 Nothern. It's from the 2002 catalog. Im going to purchase this engine in the near future so I wanted to find out the good and bad about it from someone who owns or owned it. All replies will be helpful and please post some pics. Thanks for the help

I have this engine and a black 844 as well. Both are excellent runners and the detail is also very good.

I have the FEF union pacific same engine and is an excellent runner, just so you know these engines use the ps2 5 volt boards which were known to fail but you can replace the ps2 5 volt board with a ps2 3 volt boards as long As you replace the connectors on the boards, the pin outs wiring are exactly the same so everything will work perfectly. I got rid of the battery and installed a bcr and the engine works great. also the older ps 2 3 volt boards have great and loud sound unlike some of the newer ps 3 boards have lower volume level!
