Trouble is, I've already spent the money I set aside for this thing at least twice!
Time to start checking the furniture again for loose change...

I guess it isn't vaporware afterall. I already have the Lionel one, I just want the Laboratory car that they cataloged with it
Can you share a link showing info on the GECX90 Laboratory Car? I made my own for the time being bc I couldn't wait! Came out good but would def not be near as nice as a MTH or even a Lionel finished product in grabbing all the major details.

Wow! Very nice. I missed the Lionel one, I may have to try to find one of them.

Someone is selling or wanting something in trade for his Lionel GE Hybrid right now on the for sale section.
Too bad it seems the real life engine has seemed to disappeared. I saw it running once in 2009, really quite a sight, but it doesn't appear to have caught on and become the next big thing

The hybrid was probably more a proof-of-concept locomotive than a demonstrator, otherwise it probably would have likely also tested on the BNSF, NS, CSX, CP and CN. It may have done it's job in that respect, and the engineering department can review the data and tweek or make changes.
Plus, just like with the auto indusrty, when the price of fuel goes down, general interest in hybrid and high mpg cars falls off.

It would be PS3, reason being is that the earlier generation PS2 boards would not have been able to support the chasing effect of the charging lights.
Based on the video the sounds appear to be accurate to me.

I think I remember reading that during the slow time the rr's just weren't looking to buy locomotives. It coincided with the worst of the recession with the railroads.

I have been out of the loop for a while this looks like a nice Engine does anyone know if it can still be pre – ordered and the price of it? And this would be the same paint scheme of the Lionel version am I correct? Any information would be appreciated Thank you.

I wonder if all of us that ordered the diesel through Jim's Trains will be contacted by MTH. I know MTH was taking care of orders placed through Jimmy last year.
Jason of Jason's Train shop ended up handling my MTH pre-orders for the ATSF Dash 8s and BNSF ES44ACs I had placed with Jim. He contacted me just about the time MTH started shipping to dealers and had them in my hands lightning fast. Jason is really first rate and I'm happy to do other business with him as well.
For those of you still looking to purchase one of these, most MTH diesels are made in sufficient quantity that you can still get one from a dealer (I do recommend Jason) if you act relatively soon after they ship. The scale wheel models (which I buy) are a different story; those are made in very small quantities and are best pre-ordered if you have to have one.

Good Luck! They cancelled my order for the 255E tinplate engine on me. They said I cancelled it. Funny thing is when the PS2 versions were released I re-confirmed it via a phone call. Personally I think I'd make a phone call before you're disappointed.
Great looking model. I can't wait to see it painted. Finally MTH Put's ground lights on an engine. I wonder if they will turn off automatically like they do on the Lionel GE Evolution Hybrid.
MTH sells the car separately. http://www.mthtrains.com/content/20-68003

The engine has PS3 sound system in it.
Funny that (1) I looked for the car as a separate item ages ago and could not find it on MTH's website and (2) it's given a generic passenger car description, including interior features and lights. Still, I have ordered the set, partly because the engine website page describes it as PS3.
Looks good. My gut tells me it will be Proto-3 because of the late date, plus other previously-announced items are being scheduled for delivery with Proto-3. Ordered the scale-wheeled set. Should be nice.
Ordered this engine and car this afternoon. I am really looking forward to it!
I have this one on order with Sean along with the test car, it looks like it will be worth the wait. I think if MTH thinks it will be a super winner you should be able to find one out there somewhere. I was one of the fortunate ones that got to peek inside the real engines when it was displayed at the LA union station in 2009. I seen it from my office window, it took 2 minutes for me to get over there. I have the second engine it ran around with also, looking very forward to getting both together along with the test car. Great job MTH.

Was that the ES44 Demonstrator running with it?
It was on the other side of the test car, that is why I bought the Blue/greenES44 I was running at the club. It will be a very cool train.
What the h'.l was that I saw on your chin on Howie's post, getting a little scholarly yuppiesh again are we, you back teaching?
MTH may want to release that Blue/Green ES44 again in the next catalog for those who may want the whole exhibit train.

That's my grayed-out, scruffy beard that I let grow. Makes me look scholarly. Not teaching right now -- not enough time. Hope MTH re-releases the demonstrator as it would be a nice add-on to the hybrid set.
I see that shipping of this engine, or at least the set with the RPO car, is now delayed until May. That could have been expected: I was running my Lionel Vision version of this engine and thought that the paint scheme was extremely complicated and the Facebook preview of the MTH model was of course of an unpainted version.
It's really not clear from the MTH site whether this is to be a PS3 model but I assume it will be and on that account alone worth the wait.

John JR: Is this the blue/green ES44 2nd engine you were talking about that was running with it?
