Well I just got my 3rd evolution back from MTH. 2 of them ended up having failed PS3 boards & the other 1 had a problem with the wiring. Great service from MTH & I love the way you can follow the repair online. Just wondering if anyone else has had problems with these engines!! I love the volume of sound & smoke in them.

Mine is from the latest release and haven't had a single thing wrong with it yet.
My GE EVO is from the first release and it runs perfectly.
No problems with mine. Visitors love seeing it in action (although wider curves on my layout would maker it look even better)!
1 of mine is from the 1st release (ok sound volume) The other 2 are the new releases. ( very loud sounds.) I know you can upgrade the older one but I'm ngoing to leave well enough alone. I run the 3 of them in a consist so it dosen't matter.
There all back from MTH & running great. I'm surprised the smoke detecters don't go off, they put out so much smoke. I love it)

Better send them back. The GE Evo shouldn't be doing that.

That's like when someone said what a great smoker the Lionel GE Hybrid was...
I was like hey its supposed to be a green engine.
But like Rich and others point out, if real diesel smoked anywhere near to what most people want their engines to smoke like, they would be on their way to the shop.
Mine is the 2nd run. MTH has it now. The front motor kept shutting off. Should see what happens when it did that.
Steve
Mine is from the first run, been on the layout for over 6 months with out an issue.
Believe it or not mine is starting up, lights and sounds after being underwater from hurricane sandy. No smoke I just have to work on the trucks to free the gears.

That's for sure. Smoke is what steam engines are for, and Alcos.
I suspect the main reason these Evos are popular is really the flashing lights. That's certainly the main reason I'd buy one. Pouring out smoke is kind of weird, like a modern airliner leaving a trail of soot behind it.
Well, nothing like excess. It's the American way.
