Hi, not sure if here is a way to rule out components to find the problem in my engine.  I have a 2002 (ish) Santa Fe GP38 diesel engine that has the 2.0 sound and DCS control but has a crackly speaker...

Do the speakers often go bad in these?  It sounds very weak and all broken up...  The DCS control works well, it's just the sound that has been bad for a couple of years now.

Any ideas... And where is the best place to get the parts?  Does anybody know what something like this costs to repair?

Thanks

I can fix this for you.  You can contact me off line, my e-mail is in my profile.  I am ASC tech.  The pink wire controls the smoke unit via the switch (conventional only).  The lights going out are an issue, along with the original no sound.  Did you try a factory reset to get the lights back on?

After a forum search I came up with this thread. Apparently I'm having the same issue with a PS-2 engine DAP BNSF GS-4. Haven't run it in a few years, fired it up, and sound quality is horrible and very low volume. 5 watt, 16 ohm and the magnet is covered in grey flaky dust looking stuff. Speaker is very crackly, low volume, and no bass what so ever, the only noise is a high freq crackle.

After reading through this thread, it's a cheap $10 speaker. Anyone have one? or is there a better replacement for even better sound?

Well a quick swap out confirmed that its a bad factory speaker. The one I put in there was a 3 watt, 16 ohm because that's all I had. I just did a quick test to confirm that was the issue.

What kind of damage will I do if I leave that speaker in there? Blow out the amp for the sound board?
