John,
Don't let it ruin the experience!

You're right John. But I believe the door on the model is located correctly for the NS Monongahela unit #8025 from an earlier order of ES44s, that's part of the reason why I ordered that one.
Even with the mistakes I have ordered 3 of the MTH heritage engines with a couple of dummy's included.
my reason for buying the MTH units is that the dummy's will have the prototypes cab numbers, Lionel's will not.
Very few will be able to buy all 21 heritage units so for me the correct cab numbers are important On the the non-powered units.
Sometimes I think we are all crazy. These are toy trains to me. It's nice if they are "exact" but either way I enjoy them.
And most people don't know the difference or could care less which side the doors are on.
I've ordered 6 of the MTH NS heritage Diesels because I prefer MTH products.
Above all...enjoy your trains.
i was thinking that for the money they cost the obvious detail should be correct..but over all they are very cool...anthony k.....the door is in the wrong place on the mon too....but thats ok..jusy sayin...thats all ...just sayin...yours truly conrail john
Has anyone got their hands on one yet? The door thing bugs me a little but I'm smitten anyway.
I have seen the MTH southern engine and it is very nice. Looking at it I never noticed the nose door was on the wrong side until I compared it to a picture of the real thing.
The engine is correct for a earlier phase but not for the heritage units. All in all I still like them and have ordered 4.
i shoulda kept my mouth shut......i have the southern one and am trying to select its running mate. probably the lehigh valley. the door thing dosnt detract in anyway from these beautifull engines..enjoy.....heritage es44 have a electronic bell and not what we are used to seeing..oops there i go again..conrail john

You're right John, I got mixed up. I thought the 8025 Mon unit was in that original NS order with the door on the conductor's side. NS8000 through 8023 have the door on conductor's side, but starting with the 8024, it's on the engineer's side.
It's still a nice model, and I suppose I won't cancel my order from the nice shop-keeper where I ordered it!
I plan to mate mine with some other plain black NS AC unit in the future.
Remember the Western Maryland Geep with a nose herald upside down? The "W" widened DOWN on the RIGHT instead of UP on the LEFT. I lost sleep over that one.
Thanks John. This can be my excuse for not getting one!!
more for the rest of us.......

You will be missing out on some great engines.
