Have a problem getting the trailing A unit to smoke. It is full of fluid and the smoke unit is running. I tried the usual breaking of the air bubble stuff and nothing. The units are hooked up correctly, thought there was not a complete connection with the harness but there was. Out of ideas.

No chance at all. It smoked the first run but subsequent runs it did not. Loaded fluid, there was a bubble took care of it and now nothing. Not over full. Thanks
Take shell off and observer. Is the fan running? With no power applied measure the resistance of the elements, should be 8 ohms. THis all assumes you have good continuity from the Lead A to the slave board, and slave board to smoke unit.
What model #? IF all continuity good, and no heat, maybe a bad slave board. Smoke FET opened. G
GGG, the fan is running just does not smoke. There was a reset for it that Barry gave me for another engine I had and I can't find it. The tether is connected properly. The unit was smoking when I first ran it.
This may be a dumb idea, but some MTH A-A units have a smoke unit on/off switch on both the lead and trailing A units.
I always check the easiest fix first. Train Doctor, that was the first thing I checked. Not dumb at all.
If the fan is running it has been commanded to run or is on. What model is this still matters; and are you running in conventional or DCS?
I would measure the element resistance and check continuity on the wires for the element. Purple and brown for PS-2. G
GGG running in command. Both the main and the slave unit have power to them. It is a 20-20436-1 limited run by Mr. Muffins. I was told by MTH not to take it apart it will void the warranty. True or false on that one>
Jim, if you run the loco with the shell off, and see that the fan is running, check to see if the smoke unit is getting hot/warm. Check for power at the resistors. If the smoke unit is getting hot, maybe the smoke fan is loose on the shaft of the motor. It will spin, but not fast enough to push the smoke out of the unit. I might have a smoke unit kicking around if that is the problem.
Train Doctor, I haven't taken the shell off because I was told it would void the warranty. Is that true? Thanks you.
This is PS-3 so I would send it back to MTH Under warranty. Can be a faulty slave board. If all the wires are good. But just because the slave has power doesn't mean it is getting the smoke heat signal from the Lead A. IF a wire is damaged internally it may not get the signal.
There is too much to check unless you familiar so I would send it back to MTH under warranty. G
Thanks GGG
