They were first built about ten years ago. Our museum has one of the first batch. At that time they were available with traditional motor or Proto 2.0. There was a story that the tooling for the monorail got misplaced at the factory and that's why there was such a long time between production runs. If you go to the MTH product locator and search for "monorail" you'll find the original version as well as the current production.
I just went to the 2014 catalog and read up on them. Either I didn't see it or it does not list the height to the bottom of the car, bottom of the track, top of the track, and top of the motor. These would be important to me to see if it would fit into my layout.
Wonder where I could find these measurements?

Thank you, SWH
The MTH Tinplate Monorail is a decent reproduction of the Leland Detroit Monorail.
Being tinplate, you need to look in the tinplate traditions flyer.

Up until these were announced last year, the original remakes from 2006 were fetching prices upwards of $1500 on auction sites. There was one recently that didn't garner a bid at $700.
I've got one on order as I've been looking for one for years and would not pay the high prices they were commanding.
I'd like to know the specs on the figure-8 and the other track extension packs. MTH's website provides no details.

Here are the details on the extra rails and risers. I am not certain yet, but I believe the figure 8 expansion set will include 4 more curve rails and 2 straight rails. The figure 8 sets have never before been offered, so they are selling faster than the separate rails and risers.
Item No. 10-4066 Monorail Straight Rail (4/pack)
Item No. 10-4067 Monorail Curved Rail (4/pack)
Item No. 10-4068 Monorail Riser w/Base (4/pack)
Item No. 10-4077 Monorail Figure 8 Over-and-Under Expansion Set
I recall that the initial buzz for these was quite high mostly because of the fact that the LCT catalog -- the last several to be exact -- was mostly full of remakes and repaints of previously made items. How many 400e's do we need?
Whether the actual sales of these matches the buzz is anybody's guess.
They are in stock and shipping out today!

We think it does. We shipped out our first shipment to our customers on Wednesday and we have another batch shipping out today. These boxes are heavy!
