They were first built about ten years ago. Our museum has one of the first batch. At that time they were available with traditional motor or Proto 2.0. There was a story that the tooling for the monorail got misplaced at the factory and that's why there was such a long time between production runs. If you go to the MTH product locator and search for "monorail" you'll find the original version as well as the current production.

I just went to the 2014 catalog and read up on them. Either I didn't see it or it does not list the height to the bottom of the car, bottom of the track, top of the track, and top of the motor.  These would be important to me to see if it would fit into my layout.

Wonder where I could find these measurements?

I think somebody posted that information on the Tinplate forum a while back. You could try searching for monorail threads. If you don't find it, try posting your query on the Tinplate forum. Several people have them and someone can probably answer your question.

Up until these were announced last year, the original remakes from 2006 were fetching prices upwards of $1500 on auction sites.  There was one recently that didn't garner a bid at $700.

I've got one on order as I've been looking for one for years and would not pay the high prices they were commanding.

I'd like to know the specs on the figure-8 and the other track extension packs.  MTH's website provides no details.

MTH pretty much said that the figure 8 expansion packs will include everything you need to turn the included oval into a figure 8.  It was implied that this would be done with different height risers to achieve the over-under type, and some additional curved pieces of track to complete the circuit.  The track expansion packs come in 4 packs and are either straights or curves.  You then need the risers with base for the new track to work.  So each 4-pack of track requires a 4-pack of risers with bases.  I believe that the straight pieces will be around 13" each.  I cannot remember exactly so don't quote me on that, but we did a calculation a while back and that is about where we ended up.  I guess we will see for sure soon!

Here are the details on the extra rails and risers.  I am not certain yet, but I believe the figure 8 expansion set will include 4 more curve rails and 2 straight rails.  The figure 8 sets have never before been offered, so they are selling faster than the separate rails and risers.

Item No. 10-4066 Monorail Straight Rail (4/pack)

Item No. 10-4067 Monorail Curved Rail (4/pack)

Item No. 10-4068 Monorail Riser w/Base (4/pack)

Item No. 10-4077 Monorail Figure 8 Over-and-Under Expansion Set
