I just bought a used Nickel Plate Road MTH Berkshire engine on ebay for $192. I hope that was a deal.  I fixed the headlight and the smoke unit with a new wick. It had no traction tires and i need to buy the right ones.  I bought some today at a local hobby shop and i don't think there the right ones even though they seemed to fit well.  I tried to pull 3 cars and i get traction slip on the curves when accelerating. I cleaned everything with alcohol and it helped but i would like to buy some from a MTH tech on here so I don't have to wait weeks or months from MTH and pay $18 shipping.  If anyone has the right traction tires i would like to buy a half a dozen.

Also when i add the  engine it finds it and it works fine but then later when i turn the power back on it says check track engine not on track?  I go and delete the engine then re add it and it finds it and it works again but it seems to have dementia because it forgets it again and I have to delete and add it again. Is there a fix for this? Its a 2004 PS2 engine.

Also not sure what (D) means after the engine address? Also is 1182.1 odometer scale miles or hours?  Also don't know  what Crono means.

Sorry a lot of questions but that's how I learn and figure things out and can share with others in the future.  Any advice or help to fix that would be appreciated.  And if i can buy some of the correct traction tires.  Thank you

Dave.

1184 scale miles, 52 hours of active time.

"Battery Hi" usually indicates a Bcr. You don't need those in Ps2 and it can prevent the locomotive from storing its address.

Remove the Bcr and put in a green MTH battery. Add the locomotive, start it up, shut it down then factory reset it. Re add and let it run for a bit. Once you shut it down, if it doesn't remember it's address you may have an issue with the charging circuit on the board.

20170429_125742This is not a real indicator of the battery condition, I believe it only means the charging circuit is working. Your engine may have reverted back to an old ID created when the battery was good.... Here's an east test... (conventional or command) ...  get the engine running with sound and then cut the track power. The sounds should continue on for at least 6 or 7 seconds with no track power....

How long do the sounds continue on?

With a little work she's as good as new.

Memory problem was because there was no battery. Fixed.

Had the TIU wires backwards reason it would not add the engine. Fixed.

Had no traction tires, now has the right ones,  no more wheel slip. Fixed.

New wick added, smokes like a chimmey now.....  Fixed

Thank you guys

I took the tender off and the battery was missing. Added the green mth PS2 battery and it working great now. Thank you as always for your troubleshooting time.
