 Hi all,

I received this new MTH NS Dash 8 with PS3 last week and I have to say I'm lovin it.  As usual excellent details with some improvements!  It looks like they improved the detail of the ditch lights and use LEDs.  Much cleaner looking and brighter.  There are also some new sound effects.  My recent work on the Lionel DD35 has made me appreciate MTHs details on these premier engines even more.  See through screens, thinner railing (which is more realistic looking in photos), small MU hoses and of course the option for fix pilot and scale coupler.  The only thing I did to this engine is paint the tips of the MU hoses, and recess the trucks (you can see the difference between the SD70Ace).  If you look at the real #8423 you'll see how recessed the trucks are.  It add that extra touch of realism.

Enjoy the photos!   The DVD special is still available through this site only!

Thanks guys.

I recessed the truck just as you guessed, I re-drilled and re-tapped.  However, the trucks would not slide in unless I trimmed the mounting bar since it hit the wheel house.  I cut quite a bit so much that it cut into the old tapped hole which means there is no going back.  That's ok because they fit perfectly.  In fact the brake pads are right at the edge of the wheels.  I pulled one off and took some photos.  B.T.W I re-tapped with a smaller screw so I could redo with a larger one in case I messed up.

I run some with [all the new ones] and some without.  Got a decals to put horse's head on engines.  Have to extend the white and insert.  Done a few.  That's like I have an actual photos 4 years old with new Dash engine running on NS tracks in new Conrail paint backed by three NS in new NS paint.  Was before Heritage series ever came out.

Enjoy.
