Good Evening,

I have question regarding an MTH part number.  I am finally getting around to upgrading my MTH Premier Crescent Limited locomotive from the Seuthe smoke unit to a fan unit and putting in a Proto-sound 2.0 board.  I have been made aware that it will require some work to get the smoke unit to fit, but I can't seem to locate a parts list for a single Premier pacific type locomotive on the MTH website.  Does anyone know the part number or recommend a part number for a smoke unit?  There is a bunch of MTH smoke units on the Brasseur website and I just want to make sure I order the right one.  I also have been modernizing some old K-line Crescent heavyweights (adding interiors, lighting, and Lionel steps) and will post some pictures when I get all of them done.  Thanks in advance for any assistance or words of wisdom!

You need to post some pictures of your frame, and the inside of the shell.  There are 2 primary times of smoke unit for PS-2 o-gauge.  One has short legs and the other has long.  A bracket is used for the short leg and it is used in steam primarily.  AA-0000029.

The pictures can help me give you a better recommendation.  I also carry smoke unit and have a complete assembly with a bracket.   G

I can't seem to get the shell off as easy as I thought I would be able to take the picture for you.  It is the 1994 Premier Southern Crescent.  There is a black box that has a circuit board mounted on it that I reckon is for the lights and the sleuth smoke unit.  That black box is mounted behind the first driver and it goes into the smoke box preventing the shell from lifting off.  I don't know what I missing getting this thing to come off.

  1. I don't have the instruction sheet, I just recently got this off an auction.  It has the 3 screws, 2 under the cab and 1 under the pilot.  The shell is free from the frame, the only preventing it from coming off is that black box.  It looks like the shell needs to slide forward to clear that box, but the motor prevents that from happening.  Attached is the picture of this obstruction...

I do know that on the larger Premier steam locos, there are 2 screws on the front part of the loco, behind the steam chests, and the boiler come out separate from the running boards, look for 2 screws, one on each side, buried up near the boiler. There should be a way to maneuver the boiler to get the off, if it came that far. Keep us posted.
