I have a chance to pick one of these up but the MTH product page states that it operates on 072 track. How strict is that curve on this train - will it run on anything smaller?
I can't speak for the Zephyr, but the M10000 took an O54 curve section I my layout - it did not derail but the tighter radius popped off the faring from around the middle wheel set causing the train to derail when it snagged up on a bridge.
I don't know about MTH but I do have the Lionel TMCC version which also requires 072. It would not run on 064. Derailed everytime. I doubt it would have worked on 070 reliably. I ended up rerouting the one curve on my layout that was less than 072. It has become one of my favorites trains. Its sleek and looks fast standing still. Very cool. Oh and if you have zstuff switches on ross track make sure the screws are down far enough. One caused a derailment due to overhang. I keep my switch screws fairly loose for better operation.
