Hey everybody, I was just wondering if anybody has ever seen this MTH locomotive in their travels. I'm a huge Amtrak fan, and I would like to have this locomotive at some point, but I've never seen it before, and I didn't know it was produced until I stumbled across it last year when I was looking through an old MTH catalog. I'll put the link to the page for the model itself.

Never manufactured.
The only E-60, the best of my knowledge, made was made by Williams. I believe the Amtrak one was in kit form. You supplied the frame and motors from a Lionel GP. If interested I may have one. Lenny
Interesting that the description page says "Delivered" yet it was actually cancelled. I would have bought one of these also.

The original Williams E-60 was in kit form, yes, as described above. That was in the 1980's +/-. When Williams reissued the E-60 post year 2000, it was a ready-to-run locomotive, complete with frame, motors, trucks, etc.

Cool! I ran these 30 years ago. I would definitely buy one if they were available/produced...

I think the E60's were long gone by 1990. Not one of GE better locomotives.

You said it. They were cobbled together by GE. They were awful engines to run. They rocked back and forth constantly. The always had an odd smell too, lol, something to do with the PCB oils that leaked out of the transformers.
I also ran the GE u34ch diesels. They were much better and I enjoyed those engines...

The last of Amtrak's E60s were retired in the 2003-2004 time frame.
That captive coal mine/powerplant RR in Arizona(?) ran several of them until the line was shut down last year.

Yeah, I saw that too, but then of course I was like, why aren't there any pictures of it on Google?
I am also aware of the Williams versions, which I definitely want to get eventually. The old version from the '90's fits like a glove for my Lionel MPC collection, just like their Amfleet cars. It's a shame MTH didn't produce them. I wonder if they still have the tooling for the models.
I did't realize that Amtrak ran them into the 2000's. I thought they were off the main line in the 80's.
FYI...there is 1 survivor in Pennsylvania at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania...It's in bad shape outside...

MTH never had any tooling for the E-60.

What about the model shown on the website and in catalogs? Is that just a prototype the factories produced the one time?

How about a computer generated image?
# 600 If I remember right ? They should move it inside, it's really rusty. When we got them back from the mine work, I remember all the windows were painted Black. They had the HEP removed and replaced with a block of concrete, some kinda weird looking.

Yup, looks photoshopped. Maybe an HO model with O gauge couplers photoshopped on it. Doesn't look like a physical O gauge sample.

Photoshopping of models from other scales is not unknown to both MTH and Lionel catalogs.

NJT also had the GE E-60s. All were gone before 2000. NJT #958 is preserved by UHRS.

Jerry Williams told me years ago he was offering the body kit only because he was unable to find can motors small enough to fit inside the shell. Eventually he did offer a single motor, then a double motor version.
Well Thank God for this forum and the knowledge behind it! Had it not been for the people on here, I would have been searching for that forever! Especially since it said "Delivered Jan 2001"! Wow!!! Next time I search for something I'll be sure to ask here to make sure it was even produced, especially if I've never seen it up for sale before.
