I would like pull one gear driven traction tire axle (insulated )and replace with a  gear driven non traction non insulated axle. It will drop right in. Engine will remain in 3rail operation. My tired brain says no harm to electronics as 2 rail pickup is out of the circuit when 2R switch is in 3R but need forum confirmation

The reason for this one axle only with traction tires is to minimize the occasional one direction stutter which i think is caused by one truck fighting the other due to too much unsynchronized traction. When this event occurs i notice truck shift and flywheels hopping up and down. This same engine has nearly perfect S1mph and up. My 2 rail engines don't suffer from this,i suspect the wheels slip and balance the driving forces.

A while back same issue with a SD70 RK Imperial so i pulled one set of traction tires.Stutter is gone but i have to listen to the occasional wheel ridge snapping noise especially on curves.

Thanks in advance

WILLYGEE  I called MTH  about this before I did it, He said he didn't see a problem, just keep the switch in 3 rail mode. And your right it seems to make lashups run smoother I don't have any Diesels with traction tires if one seems a bit light I just had stick on wheel weights to the fuel tank lot of room in there. Checkout the video I just posted on the three rail scale forum, Container Train. None of those SD40-2 have tires.
