Just an inspection might not ever reveal the source of your woes,….couple of known culprits on tethered PS 2 locomotives ( I’m assuming you have the tethered cord, and not the “wireless drawbar??.) the entire tether is known to fail, inside the tether, or solder joints on the female end, ( known as a cold solder joint) fail and a loss of electrical flow happens,…..most MTH Premier steam locomotive shells ( straight frames, not articulated) are held down by three screws, two back by the cab, and one under the pilot truck,….sometimes removing the pilot truck all together allows easier access to this screw,…however, I don’t know your level of experience, or knowledge of this type of repair work, so not trying to sound mean, or nasty, I just don’t know what you are or are not capable of,…..if you can’t get the shell off, you might consider having one of the many talented ASC techs on this very forum make that repair for you,….last thing you want to do is go poking around in something you’re not familiar with, and making a bigger mess than it is,…..again,…I don’t know what you can or can not do, so don’t take that negatively,….
