I have a MTH Ho proto 3 UP challenger. I run my trains with DCS. All my other Ho engines from MTH run great except for the Challenger.

The smoke unit stopped working a couple of weeks ago

It now starts up, all sounds work but it does not move

I have reset it, deleted it and re-added it but nothing helps. Is there something else I can try?

if it is a bad board or something of that nature, are there anybody here fixes the MTH Ho engines. I rather not send it back to MTH this time of year.

Thanks for for all your help,

Dave

Hi David,

There's a good chance a wire came off the drawbar in either the engine or tender. I've had a few that have had that problem. As for the smoke unit it could also be that a wire came off.

The wires in the early HO engines aren't that flexible and do break off easily. When Iv'e taken some apart Iv'e had some break off.

I think the new Challenger had a newer style drawbar not the older two wire drawbar.  These where redesigned for better contact.  The problem was the thickness of the metal mounting plate not allowing a full connection.

A photo would be nice.
