Anyone using the mth protosmoke fluid in the 7 oz. bottle shaped like a locomotive? How does it compare in legacy locos to the lionel premium fluid that ships with the legacy diesels? Thanks

Thanks for the reply...I was wondering if there was any reason to not use the protosmoke fluid in the legacy smoke units...the mth brand was all that I was able to get recently. Anyone else? Thanks...
icfan: I've used MTH fluid in Lionel units with no issues; I'm also stuck with using what I can find since I don't mail/internet order smoke fluids.
Guys, (and gals) I can say the best smoke on the planet is JT's MAGA-STEAM. I have been using the new Eliminator smoke fluid and it works better than great in both Lionel and MTH. I just put some in my MTH Imperial Steam Turbine. It was always a decent smoker. I now have to turn the smoke to low as it will fill the room with smoke on high. I have a Lionel N&W Y-3 that was somewhat wimpy with smoke output. It now smokes like a champ with MEGA STEAM. My search for the best is now over.
No problem using MTH fluid in Lionel, works well, probably on a par with megasteam. The only thing I would suggest is to add regularly, Mth fluid seems to be a "lighter" fluid and it gets vaporized quickly, however thats probably why it works well.
I use MTH fluid in a Lionmaster Big Boy that gives a lot of trouble with condensation in the Y between the two stacks. The passage is too narrow and fluid will form a meniscus in the Y. You have to blow in the stack to clear it out. The MTH goes about twice as long between blockages as Lionel fluid (old style), and puts out a bit more smoke. I haven't tried the new "Lionel Premium" fluid yet.
Your Lionmaster has only one heating element. They all do that. Try JT's and you might be surprised.

Yep, they all do that all right. The basic problem is lousy engineering - the passage in the Y funnel should be at least 50% bigger. Because of the angle you can't get in there with a tool to hog it out. I use JT's all the time, but I haven't run the Lionmaster in a long time, probably since before I ever got any JT's. Next time I run that engine, I certainly will try JT's in it - it's certainly excellent stuff.
I recently Reaganized a Lionmaster smoke unit and it did improve. I have been using the new smoke wicking MTH is now selling on MTH locomotives and it is fantastic. I do want to try it with a Lionel single element.
