bought Jersey Central 384E blue standard gauge passenger set. Ran 1rst night I had it with enclosed DCS remote system. ran great, all the bells and whistles.

went to run it the next day and nothing. loco powered up all by its self and sat there idleing with idle sounds. no movement or sounds. tryed running it direct with my Z controler and it ran great with that. so tryed other locos with the DCS wireless remote and they all ran great with the DCS system that comes with the starter sets.

emailed MTH and my hobby shop and havent heard anything back from either as of yet. HELP! (Im not an electronics guy, I like the old ZWs, run em fast and furious.)

I'm no DCS expert, but it sounds kind of like what happens if the engine gets set to a non-zero ID - it works fine under traditional power, but doesn't respond to DCS commands. The Remote Commander is a very simple DCS implementation and expects the train to be set to ID 0, which is the factory default but which will be immediately set to something else if run on a "real" DCS system. Did you maybe take the engine to a shop or a friend's layout before it stopped working with the Commander? In my case, a shop had tested out an engine for me on their (full) DCS system and not reset the engine back to ID 0 before shipping it out to me.

I am curious to what the problem really is.  As was suggested before, make sure the DCS system user does a FACTORY reset to the locomotive.  The numerical address needs to be set to "0".

The fact the locomotive starts up on it's own without the DCS Commander remote means the locomotive isn't getting the DCS search signal.  That can either be a problem with the locomotive board or the DCS Commander (box).

Also, with any PS3 locomotive, we have found that by not disturbing it (such as taking it off the track) for at least 20 seconds or more after it has been shut down and track power turned off will prevent many potential problems.

after some thought, it cant be the DCS commander box.

i used it with my other two standard gauge locos and they

worked fine.

Ill get my buddy to chck the loco with his DCS syatem.

I still have NOT heard back from MTH and ive sent them

two emails. havent heard from the hobby shop I bought it from either.

guess Ill stick with the old tryed and true Lionel post war locos.

you can still fix them and there are plenty of parts available.

Popi,

Hay I love the old ZW's myself and have a couple, one runs part of my DCS, the other runs all my switches.  I fully understand loving to run conventionals, but you know you can run conventional trains from the hand held remote, if you have the DCS a Z4K and side receiver, a way cool way to run original Lionel conventional trains.  Got to admit there is some cost to all this, and that is the main reason some of my friends really run conventionals, and I understand that also.

PCRR/Dave
