Before I send this to out for repair, I was hoping someone has seen this failure and maybe have an idea as to the problem.  It was running well then stopped and the electronic CB popped.  When I tried to reset the CB, it immediately popped again.  The CB does not pop when the engine and tender are disconnected, but will immediately pop with power on when they are connected.  Looking closely at the engine and tender, I see no external mechanical issue.  Any idea?  Or just get it repaired?  Thanks.

Pop the shell of tender and sniff for the smell of death.

Just be aware, that several of the repairs I've done with similar failure the board in the tender, boiler and speed sensor all had to be replaced.

All are available, but not cheap.

Find one of us service centers (hopefully close to you) to perform the repair so you can get the board programmed to report the correct engine info.

Good Luck.

The Y3 was a 3R only so it is not a 2R-3R switch issue.  Since both units fine when not attached it does sound like a board issue.  Blowing a CB on a PS-3 sound like a significant AC power short, possible PV.  Maybe a wire nut came off on the tender wiring.  Would be easy enough to check.   G
