I have noted that the Nickel Plate Road and Rock Island roadnames are now cancelled, but the Interstate still shows shipping in July and the Long Island in october. But fewer stores show ordering the Interstate than the other 3 roadnames,I would have to think it won't be made either. Just would like to hear something official as I pre-paid my dealer for an IRR RS3. I would bet the smoke units did not work out in the narrow RS3 body.

I also have an Interstate RS3 ordered. This unit (RS-3) was already produced in 2002 or 2003 so I wouldn't think there would be any production issues. Maybe a matter of not enough orders though? Guess we'll just have to wait and see, or call MTH.
Maybe they are finally going to upgrade the RK RS-3s. It is the only engine still catalogued that has the glazed looking cab windows with no figures inside. I have a RK RS-1 and the smoke unit works fine.
I am not familiar with the previous model, was out of the hobby back then. The new one is RK Scale which I understand to be old tooling from the Premier line. Not sure how that will change the new model (if at all), but maybe it will be an improved version. We can only hope. I model the BNSF, not Interstate, but just couldn't resist the color scheme on this fine example of an RS-3. (BNSF has no RS-3's to my knowledge, they will be leasing this one from Interstate due to the current business boom).
Those road names most likely didn't get enough orders in
Looked like the Nickel Plate RS3 got plenty of stores to pre-order to me by the product finder here, yet still cancelled.. http://www.mthtrains.com/content/30-20213-1
Wish MTH or someone would make a true scale RS3.
Weaver has made scale RS-3's for years. You're right, the cab on the RailKing model is squished.

Not sure you can go by that? It stated these dealers 'might' have it on order. My guess would be it isn't too accurate. Not very many dealers anyway.
Looked up the Interstate RS-3 and my LHS was not listed in the 'might' have on order list and I know they have at least one ordered, and pretty sure there are two. One I know has positively been ordered, mine. Asked about it today when I was there, it's still showing as being on order.
August 12th MTH had posted a production sample of one of the RS-3's on Facebook So the remaining road names will be made.

They said they were estimating two months for delivery. In the meantime I found a RS-3 dummy to run with the Proto3 once it arrives. This is going to be a great looking model. You can still order them from Mr. Muffins trains or Nassau Hobby

My first O scale/gauge engine was the Railking RS3 with Locosounds painted in Seaboard Air Line colors. I have since install ERR Cruise Commander and latest sound board.
There's been some discussion about who makes the most correct RS3 shell and I think so far it's been Weaver, but I have not seen anyone compare the new WBB RS3 against it.
Encouraging news. The picture looks great. Since I'm prototypically challenged the most correct version makes no difference to me. I'm doing good just identifying the make and model and railroad.
We are going to check with MTH next week and see if we can order the balance of the NKP RS3s needed to get them made. Stay tuned.
The MTH RS-3 in NKP is now un canceled. If you want one, we will have a pile.
Thanks.

Wish MTH or someone would make a true scale RS3.The current MTH RS3 looks squashed
and what is wrong with the K-line and/or WBB rs3's?
