My question concerned good electrical contact betwen track and pick-up rollers
I buy used MTH Real Trax track and switch from a friend and the center track need a good cleaning.
The center track beam of the switch are black painted
After a few year the black paint is full of stain and dirt
Question: Does that paint conduct electrical to locomotive pick-up rollers
Question: Does that paint as to be remove or left on from the switch center beam and from all the center track of the layout.

Well, you'll get conflicting stories on this. The black is supposed to be conductive, but I know that performance with Atlas track with the blackened center rail improves when you burnish much of the black off the top of the rail. Also, Lionel dropped the blackened center rail on Fastrack, perhaps for a similar reason?
The "paint" on the track is really some sort of anodize coating, you can't do it yourself.
