A while ago (back in April) people were wondering how the MTH offerings compared with the SHS ones. I have an OLD SHS DT&I hopper that the Southeastern Michigan S Gaugers used as a convention car in 1996, and ordered two new ones from MTH. I finally got a "round tuit" to post a few comparison photos. Hey, sometimes life gets in the way of hobbies!
First the SHS hopper:
then the MTH one,
and the two together.
The MTH has a bit more printed detail, and the SHS one has a brighter orange. However, real railroad colors and paint schemes varied also due to fading and paint batches, so this is a non issue. But if this is how MTH has treated the SHS line, I'd say, they've done a great job. I hope they continue to produce an outstanding line of S gauge items.
