Good day folks,
I followed MTH's SW8 announcement in 2019 with some interest, as I have been contemplating (in the way of armchair modelers without a layout, constantly shifting living space, and uncertain finances) starting a shelf layout in S scale. From what I can tell from the website and one (!) video on YouTube, all but the EMD demo model were produced before the tooling was sold, but the model seems to run well, operate on DCS as expected, etc.
In the event that I finally find stable housing and can start thinking about a layout, I'd be interested in first seeing who might have some of the SW8s (in any road) still in stock, and whether anyone has tested operating the unit on sub-R20 curves. I know that a big advantage of S is that one can operate scale equipment without it looking silly, but the availability of only R20 curves and larger from the manufacturers means that I am unsure whether that is the "true" minimum radius or not. Knowing a "true" radius would be helpful for layout planning; i.e. can I make more interesting scheme than the standard industrial park and allow a little bit of mainline running?
Any comments are appreciated, and I hope y'all won't mind me once again making a post based on a premise that might or might not come to pass (me building a layout).
