    Yes it will.  No problem.  I have a MTH Virginian FM shell on a William's dummy chassis that I run behind a MTH powered unit.  I also run custom painted Custom Trains shells on MTH chassis.  Lionel postwar, Lionel modern, MTH and Custom Trains FM shells are all interchangeable.  The only bummer regarding running other manufacture's shells on a MTH chassis is there is no smoke "funnel" molded into the inside of the shell so smoke fills the shell since there is no seal between the shell and the smoke unit.  You just have to turn the smoke off unless you want the engine to appear as though there is a fire onboard.

    The only ones that I don't think are interchangeable, although I haven't tried them, are the late model Lionel "scale" FMs. I also haven't checked the latest MTH priemer shells but I don't know if they are on the street yet.  Hope this helps.
