Boy, and I thought my three-truck one was busy mechanically!
Boy, I need to get around to finishing this tiny model of a two truck Dunkirk. It has
been in limbo for months..
FYI, MTH's List Price on these Locos (Hi-Rail) is $1,099.99, Scale Wheel is $1,149.95.
FYI, according to the catalog, the UP version is a 3 truck Shay. The product locator shows that MTH has it in stock.

Thank you - I should have checked my own website and not done this on my I-Pad!....
Do these engines come with just the balloon style stack? I like the C&O shay, but in real life it had a straight stack as it was not a logging loco. It was used to move coal on a few steep branch lines. So the question is does the MTH C&O loco come with a straight stack or a straight and a balloon style that can be changed.

Ken:
Your question got me to open one up. Looks like just the balloon style - no seperate straight stack in the foam. Here's a picture:

This thing is pretty neat - I think I am going to have to keep one. Which coal hoppers would be best? With a bobber caboose?

According to an article from the C&O Historical Society, the shays ran between 1907 and 1923. It seems like a bobber caboose like MTH #30-77022 would be about right. Not sure about the hoppers. I would have to look around for what was appropriate for that time period.

How can you not want one of these

I just read in the MTH catalog that the Shays require minimum 072 curves, both hi rail and scale rail. Rats. My layout is 054, and no room to get bigger. Almost bought an engine I couldn't run.
Mike
ive run some of my premier diesels and they say 054 and I have run them on 031. maybe ask someone if that is absolute the case. maybe Mr. Muffin can try that out on 054!
