I am curious to know if dead railing is gaining traction. I know when I ran G scale it was the only way to run the long trains on a large layout. if anyone is what system are you using, and is it internal or external antenna? What battery size are you using

I deadrail. I use Blunami and Railpro. Blunami uses BlueTooth and RailPro used Direct Radio. Both are internal antenna. With plastic shells I get 100ft+ range. I like Blunami better for operations and sound. I like 14.8v Lithium Ion (not LiPo) batteries with the biggest mah that will fit in the engine. Usually 2200 to 3300 mah.
I do have two smaller engines (44 tonner and SW1200) that use 11.1v. They run fine.

As a dealer I see more and more new customers turning to dead rail install each month. I use the RailPro system which is an internal antenna on 2.4Ghz. Many guys are trying the Blunami system. It is a personal choice to use a dedicated hand controller or your phone app. The 14.8V battery packs works well.

Just curious Ron, why Lithium Ion over LiPo?
I always understood that LIon is safer but LiPo has more capacity.

Lipo's are a lot of power all at once and are great for RC planes and Cars. Our trains do not need that. Lipo's also have balance leads and can be somewhat temperamental and should be charged in a Lipo safe bag.
LiIon's do not have a balance lead and can get charged with a single lead. I found the smart charger (about $35) to be neat and easy. I can charge all of my LiIon's in the engine without removal.
I should add, you want LiIon's with Printed Circuit Board (PCB) protection. The PCB will prevent from over charging and under discharging.
If you short a Lipo you can easily start a fire. @Don Sweet has a video where they purposedly short a LiIon with PCB protection and nothing happens.
