I own a MTH O Scale Premier F-7 ABA Diesel Set w/Proto-Sound 3.0 Southern Pacific 20-20390-1 set. It currently has the passenger sound set. Does anyone know of a suitable freight sound set that with work with this A-B-A set?
Thanks,
Ed

I've read your post several times. I can't help as I don't have many older era engines. I do have a few. One is an upgraded Atlas F2/3 to PS3 I did. I searched and found a suitable sound set for me. I also had some other F series, but I sold a PRR set off. I remember looking for you before and didn't find one. I should check my set of Soo Line and see if they are PS3 and freight sounds.

Anyways I never found a specific SP sound set of freight sounds. I fear it's so specific, that MTH may not have one yet. You may have to go with a set for a Santa Fe for example?
I think if there was one, someone would have chimed in by now?
There are sound sets for F3/F7, but so far I have only found ones for a individual F3 or F7. The A-B-A sets are unique and need a sound set that controls the lights differently than a stand alone F3/F7. Found that out the hard way. Not looking for a SP specific sound set, just looking to get away from the passenger set announcements. I want to use this set to haul a set of SP reefers and the passenger sounds are not appropriate.
Don't use crew talk, problem solved.
I would think that if you didn't touch the chain files, you'd be OK?
I'm pretty sure that the sound files would leave most lights alone. The trouble for me is that there always seems to be exceptions from MTH.

I tried that, doesn't work. The sound files do affect more than just sound effects.

Are you serious! What's the point of having features that you can't use.
Some of what stated not fully correct. Is this an early ABA set with a slave unit in trail A? Tethers to connect each unit. You can change a sf and the lighting features should stay. Nothing special about the ABA versus individual units other than the slave portion of the flash code. Since you can leave the flash code alone and only load the SF you should be ok. You might only loose a MARS light if your unit has it and the SF you load does not.
So use the MTH WEB for Sound FIles and type in F-7 or F-3 ABA and look at the PS-3 sound files. Should be a FYS.

20-20389-1 comes up with FYS. Same year as your SP version. Just different Road Name. G
I used the sound file from a PS3 SF F7, no Mars light, and the following happened. Sound was just what I wanted. But as soon as the speed was increased it took of like a jack rabbit. Directional lighting did not work correctly, front headlight did not go off when in reverse. Loaded proper chain file and speed problem was fixed, but still had lighting problem. Yes this is the teathered set, not that early made in 2014. I will download the sound file for the engine you listed and see what happens.
That is not normal, so I do not know what happened unless SF load was corrupted during install. When an install is done SF or Flash Code, the unit needs to be powered down, and sit for 30sec before power reapplied. G
