I just got the Coal Train set and it came with a circle of the stuff. I wanted to get an idea of it's durability. I'm thinking of getting more to use for quickie layouts at TCA. I am mainly concerned whether it will handle being set up, taken down etc multiple times.

If I ever manage to set a layout up at TCA I will bring some so you can examine it (and run trains on it).

Hope you are doing well, sir!

thanks

If "numerous times" means once a year a Christmastime, it will likely last for decades.  But if taken apart every weekend, well, probably will start getting loose after not that long.

You trying to tell me it will not pass through my Marx pre war switches

I assume that you noticed this.

I am shocked and appalled that you would make such a purchase!

What is the world coming to?

(have fun with your Coal Train!)

I use it on a nice plush rug under the christmas tree to run my 400E and 500 series freight. Snaps together easily, looks great, keeps oil an grease off the floor, and the train (12 freight cars long) runs incredibly quiet with no issues for hours! I turn off the sound and smoke systems and I use MTH's new DCS commander remote control with it. I really like the track better than the traditional style. If I ever build a STD layout, Realtrax is my choice.

I think it's particularly great for running all around the room instead of being limited to whatever size platform supports the Christmas tree itself.  I'd like to see some switches, too, but I don't know if the market would support another standard gauge switch offering.

I think there is a market.  I have many customers locally that has purchased the starter sets from me and have been asking for switches.  All I can offer them is the traditional switches that MTH makes.  Besides the fact the price point is high for them, I am not a big fan of the overall look of them connected to the Realtrax.  The track by itself......I am all the time reordering it.  I can only imagine the layouts they are building on the floor!
