Well,

I was able to get the loose 'simulated fire' piece re-attached recently, but I noticed that the boiler shell was sitting a little too high. So, this morning, I decided to fix that problem. However, in the process of getting the shell to sit properly, I managed to sever a wire. So, I have a question:

Will this be expensive to repair?

That is a question that's akin to something like: How long is a road?

It depends on what you shorted when you did the wire, as well as the type of board in the locomotive, PS/3, 3V-PS/2, 5V-PS/2, etc.

You could start with the actual product number of the locomotive.

Pictures also help, including where the wire goes.

It is 30-1758-1. The wire in question is a black wire, which I'm thinking leads to the headlight. The other end connects to a dark blue plug. It is worth mentioning that I have not attempted to run it after this happened.

Offer still stands, I’m in eastern NC, it’d be a little drive for you, but I’ll be happy to help you get it all back together.....we’ll fix the wire, double check everything else and run it on my layout before you head back home.....it’d be my pleasure to help........email is my profile...........Pat

So, after looking at the wire again, I have noticed that the insulation on the wire is damaged in two places. Also, it's severed at a shorter length than I previously thought. And there's an additional wire that is damaged, that I didn't notice before. It looks like a part and some wire may need to be replaced.

Question: Will an MTH Authorized Service Center be willing to repair this for me?

Answer: Yes, they certainly can make that repair. Or carefully box it up and send it to me. Also if shipping it concerns you, make the drive out to my house, we’ll put on a pot of coffee, straighten her out, and watch her run on my layout.....again, the offer stands.....this isn’t rocket surgery, or brain science, you got a mushed wire....most likely a 5 minute fix.........Pat
