I'm new to O gauge and cannot get the TIU to accept TMCC engines. After I "add engine" in TMCC it says added, but when I try to operate them it wont allow me to enter the address. I get "no active dcs engines". It also tells me my engines are inactive, but it won't allow me to activate them. I then press the remote wheel until TMCC comes up, but it shows me "TMCC O" with the # of the engine under the message. Unfortunately I don't, at the moment have any MTH PS2 engines to compare it too. I have an MTH "proto sound" but that cannot be programed probably because of non compatibility with the DCS.

Thanks

Brian

Brian,

TIU's have been made in several hardware versions, or levels, over the years.  Newer ones generally have fewer problems but not always.

The latest is version 'L'.  You'll find the version number on a TIU on the back, i.e. the side that would normally be facing the table if you set down on a table after you take it out of the box.  It's printed on a small sticker.

Also another question: Q5: What is the product number of the cable you're using to connect your TIU to your Base-1?  (There are two of them, one works with Base-1, the other with Base-2).

Finally, regarding your answer to Q4, the software revision level of the handheld is in the form 1.xx.  You have to read it off the screen on the handheld after you power it up.  We need to know what your xx is.  The TIU has it's own 1.xx, and you also read that off the handheld too.

Chances are that your TIU software needs to be upgraded.  As @gunrunnerjohn has pointed out the problem's not likely to be with your handheld.

From what was posted. Your new to DCS with no DCS engines. Starting with the basics. Do you have power going into Fixed One in order to power up the TIU ?

If you press Read. Does the remote find your TIU ?  Early units were known for loose boards. If it can’t find the TIU.  Tether a curly phone cord between the 2 and try again. Adding TMCC is pretty easy. You can do it sitting in a recliner with your remote away from the layout. Start by making sure your DCS is working properly. I agree about upgrading your system. You will see more features. Still. No matter what version your running. It still should work.

The only other thing. The cable between you TIU and Command base. Is this recent issue or did come with the TIU with the early 2002 software. The original cables MTH offered didn’t work without being modified. They later offered a correct one you could exchange for.
