Hello,

I have recently expanded my layout and I need to relocate my TIU. The AIU is on the other side of my layout, and I do not want to move the AIU because there are a lot more wires going to the AIU than the TIU. I tried using a regular phone cord, but they are not the same. I have the TIU- AIU cord used to connect them, but I was wondering if there was a larger cord. Do you know if there is a longer cord that can connect the TIU and the AIU? It says on the cord: AWM E208931 STYLE 20251 60 Degrees Celcius 150V VW-1 AWG26/6C DYNA COM 400W-6. Thank you for your help!

Ricky

If you "do" eBay, they come in a variety a lengths and very inexpensive.

Search eBay (or Amazon or wherever) for "6P6C Reverse cable" and choose your length.

AIU to TIU cable 6P6C reverse

"Reverse" is shown above.  6P6C simply means the 6 Positions 6 Conductors - the connectors have 6 available slots and all 6 are being used as conductors.  I just checked eBay and there are 7 ft, 14 ft, and 25 ft cables for $4 (free shipping) from a U.S. based seller.

Ricky,

The cable is a standard RJ12, 6 Conductor Cross Wired Modular Telephone cable. They are available in several lengths here on Amazon.

Regarding cable length, consider the following from The DCS Companion 3rd Edition page 68 and The DCS Wifi Companion 1st Edition page 33:

The AIU to TIU cable carries both DCS commands to control the relays and the electrical current to energize them. If only switch terminals are being used, the total AIU cable length can be well over 100 feet, because only one relay is energized at a time. When using accessory terminals, however, many relays may be energized simultaneously causing a greater voltage drop over a long wire run. If so, it's safest to stay under 25 feet of total length between all the AIUs on a chain.
