Actually, it depends.

Older versions of the controller actually had the number on them, those should not be used with a higher power brick.

New ones just Say Z-Controller, those can take any of the 3 sizes of brick. I suspect MTH found it was cheaper to just make all of them the same. So they used the highest power one for all of them.

my controller doesnt say Z on it..but its the newer version 6 amps not the older 4 amps.Been trying to get used to it.. My CW80 id had not much proublems firing off crew talk/station sounds.just having alittle proublem firing off crew/stations sound on the z...is there a trick on the Z?..

if yours an older unit 4 amp ..proubley not..maybe the other guys might have a better answer ..id been so baddly out of o gage trains..it isnt funny.I got the z750 new at a good price at the train show..was told it has more true power then the CW80.. I do notice the differents in speeds..

Chessie, you can always use a lower wattage supply than the rating, just never go the other way, do not exceed the rating. This goes for all electrical products.

So yes, you can use the 750 or even a 500 brick with a 6 Amp controller.

A 750 is going to be right at the limit for a 4A controller but you can use a 500 with the 4A controller as well.
