I've also sent a note to MTH support about this, but haven't heard back. I'm working to improve my Christmas layout (my wife may not be happy, it's growing a lot, but it'll look great) and I want to switch to DCC. However, the manual for my MTH trolley (30-5174-1) tells me to cut the black wire, but the picture is in black/white, the picture shows the wires unfastened, there are 2 or possibly 3 black wires depending on whether that third is just a doubled back continuation of the second, and the board they show isn't the same as the board in my trolley.

Can anyone give me some pointers on how to convert this? I'm not sure how quickly MTH support will operate given everything going on, and I have time now to start to work on the next version of this layout. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

There should be only one black wire that loops between two pins on the 40 pin connector.  They'll be at one end, the end with a single notch on the connector.  There will not be black wires at the other end, so you shouldn't have difficulty identifying them.

Here's a diagram that shows how the switch connects, I've installed switches for people that want to switch between modes.  Just cut that wire and tape the ends and you'll power up in DCC mode.
