Now that I got past the amount of amps on startup It runs, chuffs, smokes, has lights. But for some reason the sound is low. In conventional I could just about hear it I tried my DCS and got the sound a little better I changed the volume control & a put in a new 4ohm speaker. I also did a factory reset. Am I missing something?

What speaker did you use? The MTH supplied speaker is a very high efficiency model that is pretty loud. It's not particularly hi-fi, but it is loud. I've tried a bunch of speakers with MTH upgrades, and many are very low volume. I have found some that give decent volume, but not all 4 ohm speakers are created equal.
don't for get you can also experiment with different sounds files as some sound files are louder then others!

I just replaced a speaker on one of my MTH engines I used an MTH speaker and the volume went up so much I had to turn it down to about 40%. The old speaker was covered with metal filings and other metal. This was under the plastic cover over the speaker in the tender.
Remember that sounds can be adjusted in the dcs remote.
Did you use a volume pot? If you're just running DCS you don't need it. You can try bypassing it to see if that helps. Also use the stock speaker from the kit as suggested. It's plenty loud.
I have found playing around with MTH sound files that some are much louder than others. The PS2 5V files that have been converted to PS2 3V (called Protosound upgrade files on MTH's site) are usually the loudest. For some reason the late PS2 3V sound files don't have the umph of the earlier ones.
I tried the volume pot first , no change. Than went to DCS which brought the sound up, but I don't think all the way. I was using the speaker out of the kit, 4 ohms 4w I than changed to another 4ohm 4w speaker I ran a test on the speaker the ohms were correct and changed the volume control. I did load PS2/3v PS upgrade f/Big Boy. I'm thinking of reloading the sound. Thanks again
One detail I left out. when I first loaded the sound it was loud I turned it down a little. I than went back to finding about the amps & constant light board. Taking the eng shell on & off to test. when I finally got the amps issues resolved than the sound problem . Could just about hear it in convental & headlight wasn't bright
Ok, you never really implied you shorted the board, but did you? All those on and offs did you pinch a wire? You may have damaged the audio amp. Only way to tell is put it on a test set for sure.
Have you bridged the joints on the volume pot? Red to Gray is full volume. G

Did you short a wire for the speaker during this? I'm a bit confused as to what happened.
Checking wires to volume pot red in middle blue or gray either side is this correct?. You say I can bridge the red & gray together to get full sound. After this Ill hook the boards to my test unit
